My Tuesdays turned into my (thirsty) Thursdays. Next week I am getting back on track!!! Consider that a promise!
2020 Lobster Pot Challenge Winner!
Sort of anti-climactic based on the fact that there really was only going to be one winner for like the last six weeks, barring any unforeseen circumstances (which did not happen)! Even though there are a few weeks left, a winner can now be crowned!!!! A very big shout out and congratulations to Anne Banfield on her second career Lobster Pot Challenge win! It also happens to be her birthday today (also Michelle Shouldice’s b-day today too- hayyyyy girl hayyyyy welcome to the 30 club!!!), so congrats and a very happy birthday to Anne! Last week we ended up catching a total 36 ocean insects bringing the YTD total up to 546! Justin Belden made a great run especially being a first-time potter. Good luck on the second pot Belden, you've got a very strong guess with 649!! With all this excitement, I am thinking next year I will need to get some plaques made up for the winners!
2020 Lobster Pot Challenge – Round 2
Speaking of second guesses, another first year potter Matt Junkin made a strong run in his inaugural year, to the point where he added two more guesses for the second pot! He should've learned that we don't mess around though; we already knocked out his first guess (519 – like WTF man!!!) and gunning for his second! BTDUBBsss pretty good little purse to be had in the second pot!
North vs South Challenge:
The group text is getting pretty heated! Nuff said! Team Truly 133 – LDL Co. 89
This week:
I took my chances this week and tried to beat mother nature, I know you doubt me but there are days that this happens - thank you Shawn T for all the mental and physical health prep! I left my traps exactly where they were to ride out Hurricane Teddy which stayed off the coast but brought very high winds and astronomical high tides on Tuesday. Don’cha worry all ten were accounted for but unfortunately we could only pull 8, the other two are tangled in some fellow lobsta fellas lines. Hopefully they will be nice and not cut my line, I’ll find out tomorrow when I check again. Obvs can’t tell you how many Teddy lobsters we caught until next week!!
We had Bill (76) and Carole Shouldice (77), William has now had all three living great grandparents on board to help him haul traps at 1.5 years of age!
“I could not believe how bad the pots get tangled from the storm! How hard it is to try and hand pull up pots loaded with a hundred pounds of seaweed and kelp!! I think everybody that is eating out of those pots should be chipping in and buying the LIZA B an electric pot hauler!” – Carole Shouldice
“The tail of Storm Teddy raised hell for a while and again when we were pulling. Enjoy the LIZA B’s bugs! They are a lot of freakin' work!!” – Bill Shouldice III
I really don’t have much more than that folks!! I’m tired- tired from pulling traps in rough seas, tired of being commissioned to do odd jobs for neighbor Tony for replacement traps, tired from raising the Baron of Badgers Island, and tired from living this bachelor life! My 1.5 year old and 2 week old are easy compared to the things just listed!!! As Captain Ben said yesterday “it’s been a long summer of dealing with these traps…” and that it has; even my helper is starting to fade...
I'll tell you what though, as the days get shorter, colder, and the leaves start falling.....we here at LDL Co. are committed to bringing this thing home! Three weeks left for the second bet and conclusion of the 2020 Lobster Pot Challenge!! Then it's two more weeks of filling our freezers full of tails for the winter!
"That's just the way we roll."

PS - bringing lobsters VT bound for some of our potters that haven't yet enjoyed the goods, look out for a text from me soon!
