Water Pumps & Mechanics 101

August 19, 2019 at 11:26AM

Good morning to all.

I'm not sure if anyone has been following us at .aboard.the.liza.b or not, but if you have you’ve noticed that there has been NO ACTIVITY aboard the Liza B - zilch! The reason for no activity is that the first water pump that we changed out last week was the one cools the engine. This particular one wasn't really the issue for the engine overheating, however it was the other water pump that cools the heat exchangers.

Who knew there were so many frigg’n water pumps!!!! This one had seized up and was not spinning. You see there is a little propeller on the inside on this little contraption and that is what spins off the pulley with the belt that ends up shooting coolant into these said exchangers. Using Amazon Prime I was able to order it Tuesday morning, but it didn't come in until Thursday.

On Friday there were some big plans being made with the potential of getting back out on the water to figure out this whole lobster trap thing. After changing the heat exchanger water pump, the 2 belts that run the pulley, a new fuel filter, a ford fender solenoid (starter), and two gallons of premium Green Coolant the engine got hawter than a French whore and started to melt the rubber on the exhaust!

I couldn't even begin to imagine what the problem is now! After some quick diagnostics we determined that there is so much air built up in the engine that the pumps were still not able to push the coolant to the places it needed to go. There are many ways to bleed the system, however my mechanics suggestion obviously included more $$$$ so off to Amazon prime I go.

Mechanic Matt could not come back until today; so He, me and a case of Miller Lite and my new funnel kit are going to try and bleed the system to get the air out.

Long story short we have not fished in 19 days - the longest we have had to go! Chances of having any lobsters in the traps at this point are very slim to non-existent. The Liza B is still floating on the dock awaiting some more work! I'm very optimistic about it getting fixed this afternoon, but it was supposed to be up and running last Monday afternoon...I am very upset with how the last couple weeks have gone. Nothing has drove me more nuts than being asked to provide lobsters for a dinner and not able to produce - Sorry Anne!

Hopefully this week we are back up and running and able to build back up the supply!

On a positive note, due to the lack of boating I was able to get all the windows in the condo done, Kitchen is done (without a sink yet), and Liza, WJB3, and myself are roughing it on an air mattress down stairs this week! My self-employment is really starting to see some income while we begin out tourism escaped renting our condo overlooking Portsmouth Harbor ($275/night) for anyone interested!

TYD total remains at 128

Happy Monday! It certainly slapped me in face!

P.S. Shout out to Cheri on her Birthday!

Disclaimer: My editor is on a plane to NY so you get the raw unedited version again this week! Sorry if there are typos, if I made fun of someone, or hurt anyone’s feelings
