Hi folks!
Sorry (I feel like I've been using that word all season) the updates have been non-existent due-to-the-fact-that we really haven't gone too much. Reason being, I won't take the little guy on a boat I haven't really been trusting too much lately.
I will start by saying it's been a very trying, discouraging, and dismal year, especially after the record-breaking start we had. The boat issues have taken a lot of steam out of my engines – Ha, get it? (I'm laughing but also crying).
As far as the boat is concerned; my mechanic was here on Saturday. The re-wiring is finally done, the overheating issue is fixed (I do need to replace the thermostat sensor because although everything is reading normal on my laser gun the gauge is reading higher than before 🙄). Overall, we are fully functioning, it’s too bad the season is pretty much over though.
Good news! I can finally listen to the weather channel on the VHF radio! If anyone knows someone looking for a boat I will give them a smokin’ hot deal. I have listed it on Facebook Marketplace for those of you who do not have FB, also on Craigslist - 23 ft Eastern center console!
With all the nonsense above we still have 13 days of fishing left for the 2019 Banfield Lobster Pot Challenge! I plan on fishing the shit out of the next 2 weeks and pushing it all to the limits! There is still a lot of fight left in the ol' Liza B! I was hoping to go today, however hurricane whatever its name is sent Portsmouth Harbor’s lobster fleet in early. As neighbor Captain Tony said "Waves were crashing on the roof of my boat". He pulled back into the dock at 7:30AM. Then he and I did some small projects around the compound and even took a ride up North to his cabin, so I had the chance to pick his brain and get some tips on the remaining days of the season. For once he didn't call me dumb, stupid, or idiotic about the things I do!
Although days fished and total count are not what was expected, Little Duder Lobster Co. (LDL, Co.) had a very exciting week. We were able to supply fresh lobster rolls at my Par-3 Men’s Night group, which they enjoyed prior to glow golf! I cooked, shucked, and prepared 13 lobsters for the outing, not to disappoint! They left no "claw" unturned! Shout out Sam Morse (whoop whoop) - next year I will be 50% sponsor only if I can fly a LDL Co. banner somewhere (also need to get the group in on the bet - I know most of them like a little betting!) Needless to say, I’ve perfected my recipe!!! Watch the F-out!!!! This recipe will be an award winner one day...I'm still trying to pin down a day in Uncle Archie's kitchen, once that happens, I will give a little insight on how I make them, but will not include my secret sauce! 🤔
Gettin' down to the Nitty Gritty Numbers:
· 2018 September YTD: 218
· 2018 September total: 47
· 2019 September YTD:194
· 2019 September Total: 47
As you can see last September, and this September are weirdly enough the exact same. Last year we checked traps 10 times, this year only 6. I am 24 bugs from last year’s pace. Here is the good news for some of you - last year Columbus Day landed on October 8th. This year it falls on the 14th giving me 6 more potential fishing days (just realized that btdubbs). I have a feeling I can not only make up the 24, but also get past the 37 we caught in the first week plus last year.
Reminder: Last year we caught 254 at the Columbus Day cut off. My goal is to get past that! Update on bets: Jen you’re out – sorry, Sam B. you will be out tomorrow – sorry, Ken you better hope we don't go over 230, Gina you better cross your fingers that we get 231!
Food For Thought: I averaged 7.83 lobsters caught per haul in the month of September. If I go 13 times in October that is 101.79 lobsters plus 147 = 295.79 (Tyler, Mike, Randy - cross your fingers!)
Fair Winds and Following Seas!
- Capt’n Duder
P.S. Little Duder Lobster Co. getting into the "Lobster Dealing" Market...Details to follow.
