Red Claws and Green Thumbs

Hidey-ho Potters!

Whaaaaaat? Did you think you were going to get through a season without hearing from Neighbor Ben and the crew of the Claw?? I don’t think so.

It’s been a busy start to the month of August here on the island, especially with the Liza B crew MIA over the past week and all I can say is…BOY is my back tired from carrying all Will’s slack! With team LB taking in some R&R in Vermont, we’ve not only been keeping the lobster numbers up, 38 over the course of last week 267 total YTD) including a coupla monstahs, but we also had to wear the salty farmer hat while tending to the gardens. We’re up to our eyeballs in zucchini, any takers or recipe sharers out there?? The pickling game is strong with Will, Liza, and first mate Kate all taking a stab at pickling the plethora of cucumbers and green beans. The pumpkins are steadily gaining weight and will be ready for William and Charlie to carve up by October. Our sole watermelon continues to impress as do Liza’s sunflowers. With all the roosters gone - finding new homes in our roasting pot and freezers - the ladies seem content, with one Rhode Island Red finally leaving us a daily gift in the nesting box…Badgers Island egg salad sammiches will be coming soon.

Will’s also had us batting clean-up in the Airbnb turnover game, making sure units are up to snuff when the regular cleaning crews drop the ball…(cough cough Kyle, Erin and Anne…cough cough) and knowing him, I’ll have to accept my payment in PBR, which let’s be honest, isn’t the worst thing!

The final addition to the chaos in Kittery has been Tony and Sandy’s two new corgi puppies, Salty and Stoney. If those names sound familiar to any of our visitors here of the last couple years, it’s because they are recycled from the last two corgis they had. Definitely one way to get some longevity out of those monogrammed collars, bowls, and beds. Plus, they’re the perfect squeezable targets for William’s Elmira-like affection, which Murphy is totally fine with.

We’ll be glad to have the Liza B crew back this week and be able to pass the potter torch off as we get ready for our West Coast adventure…wildfires permitting. We figured we need to take a break from hauling anyway to give the Liza B a chance to catch up in the numbers!

As always, stay safe, stay salty, and stay SANE!

Capt’n Cole over and out.
