Fellow Potters!
Well the Pats game sucked... Go Tom Go!
I was going to send this out on Monday night (last Monday that is), but figured I would let the second guessers sweat it out a little bit and also figured a vast majority of you really don’t care and are sick and tired of hearing from me. Also, as the 36th chapter of the blog and likely the last post of the 2020 season, I needed to make sure it was a good one!
I also needed to gather a little more content. So, Liza and I decided upon the conclusion of the 2020 Lobster Pot Challenge that we would give all of our Island neighbors and Airbnb renters a break from all the screaming kids (me included) and took a trip north to the lobster capital of the nation and largest lobster port in Maine, Stonington. This salty Down East Maine fishing village is home to nearly 1,300 residents where 1 in 5 have a lobster license. The port brings in 15M pounds of lobster each year producing about $50M which translates to almost $200M impact to the local economy stemming from the lobster landings. I figured William and I could learn a lot on this trip and maybe a little of the saltiness would wear off and give us more luck in years to come! !! We took a ride to Isle au Haut so William could test his hauling skills in these salty waters, he was a little disappointed when he pulled the rope and found nothing on the other end --- it kept him busy for 20 minutes though so....#Iwin.
Also, threw in the LD row boat to try and figure out where we will throw some test pots next year!!! SHHHHH!!
I already booked our week for next year in our "Lobster Camp"
It was a long lobster pot season, but to haul in a record total of 663 is nothing short spectacular. Overall winner, Anne Banfield, with a guess of 582 got blown out of the water! Thank goodness gracious for the second pot to keep things interesting coming down the home stretch. With the way fishing was going, there were really only four people in the hunt going into the final day's haul!
With a total of 15 little buggers caught last Monday, the 663 total made new potters James Hoeg and Abbey Thomas (guess 666) the 2020 second pot co-champions and pot veteran Tyler Novelesky (guess 671) finishing a close 2nd! Congrats to all winners!
Long story short…we had a really good year and it was so much fun! Too bad it's over...time for us to take COVID shelter as she makes her second appearance with the fall sniffles! Thanks to all who have participated in the 2020 Lobster Pot Challenge... It really does give us the extra push on days that we feel a little sluggish!
UPCOMING: We had some technical difficulties with the year end video files, but should be back on track now. Stay tuned!
Till a later date....

P.S. while in Stonington we stumbled upon the original Liza B (now named Kapueo)... It's either salty fate or the boat is haunting me! We almost were able to take a ride on it with its new owners but it poured rain on Friday - taking it as a sign...
