I feel like I have not posted a blog-worthy post in a couple of weeks, although I did send a couple of e-mails. I know, I need to get the blog back on track for the last month - that was my commitment to all of you!!! This one happened to take me three days to get out - maybe its because I overthink things, maybe its because I procrastinate or maybe its because we have a 6 day old at home...idk... Anywhose, here we go!
The Numbers:
Last week we finished with 25 bugs, bringing the YTD total to 516! I know, 25 is a little lower than our weekly average… but, we did check 4 times. We battled through unsafe seas and conditions on Monday which forced us to turn around. Pea soup fog hit us on Thursday which made for an interesting experience - if you don't know what this means, you legit cannot see a thing, its like driving through smokey air without the smoke! To be honest, I can’t tell you why the lower numbers last week. A little insight from fellow Captain Tony was that they are all hiding in the rocks shedding their shells. “They will be back! So don’t move!” And moving I am not!!! I know my little honey hole will start producing August numbers any day now!
Anything can happen the last month as storm season surges and cold weather arises, but we are down to two people left in the original pot. There is a pretty big gap between the two… If we only hit 540, Justin Belden will take the prize. Anything over 541 will go to Anne Banfield, who is looking to claim the prize for the second time in three years!
Thanks for all those adventurers who encouraged us to start a second bet and those who placed them! It definitely will make for a more interesting last few weeks and these blogs to be more exciting to read! There were 48 new guesses plus LDL Co.'s $100 sponsorship – making the new pot total a $580 dollar prize! Coupla you still need to fork over some dough....you know who you are! For those of you with a second guess - check the spreadsheet to make sure your guess is accurate!
First place - $464
Second place - $116
Island Update:
It’s been a busy time over here on the Island! Last week LDL Co. added a new stern-man to help William haul in traps. For those of you that think Charlie will hinder our numbers or cut back our hauls, you are wrong! We went out earlier this week in blowing winds and storming seas! Don’t worry I only took William because he has seasoned seas legs.
Shack Update:
We did one more this past Sunday… I think we are shutting it down now, but I thought that last weekend! I mean how can you resist these rolls?!?!
North vs South Update:
Ben and I are getting smoked, there is really no other way to say it. Team Truly is absolutely kicking the living shit out of us 114 – 73… I would say that being a little farther north would have something to do with it, or they just need a legal measuring gauge. They may be winning, but here is a little snippet of their shit show up there, I would love to be a lobster on the wall to watch this!!!!!
“Team truly had a rough afternoon. We almost got taken out by a rogue 10 ft breaker. Good thing I was behind the wheel to navigate us to safety. Then I sliced my finger tossing a pot back into the water while a wave broke on the top of us yet again. As we stopped to look for a Band-Aid. I hear capt’ Jt Money yelling - “heellllllppppp Sam”. As I turned around… I see his legs in the boat and his fingers holding on to the gunnel with his ass in the water. It was a tough decision, but for the sake of JT’s safety, I decided I would not pull out my phone and add to every social media account I have! After holding onto his hands and giggling for a good 10 seconds I finally got a leg up on the gunnel and was able to hoist him back into the boat. 23 Lobsters on the night.” – Capt Sam
We may have a 41 lobby gap, but doncha worry, Ben and I will get our shit together. Maybe all we needed was to outfit Liza with some new salty gear to help change the tides!!!
Peace, Love, & Lobsters
-Capt Duder
P.S. I did get 3rd place in the Wild Harbor Inshore Slam Tourney…. No Big deal
